Celebrate Recovery
What is Celebrate Recovery?
Celebrate Recovery is a biblically based
12-step program emphasizing the following:
Forward looking – it focuses on the future regardless of your past
- It emphasizes personal responsibility. We are here to work on ourselves and not someone else.
- It emphasizes a spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ as your higher power
- It emphasizes the biblical principle truth that we need each other in order to grow spiritually and emotionally.
- It addresses ALL types of hurts, habits, and hang-ups.
- It is confidential…what is shared in the group stays in the group.
What is a hurt, habit or hang-up?
A hurt, habit or hang-up is something that hinders your walk with God.
Hurts: The feelings of being hurt is an emotional reaction to another person’s behavior or to a disturbing situation (abuse, abandonment, codependency, divorce or relationship issues)
Habits: A habit is an addiction to someone or something (alcoholism, drugs, food, gambling, sex, shopping, or smoking)
Hang-Ups: Hang-ups are negative mental attitudes that are used to cope with people or adversity. (anger, depression, fear, unforgiveness)
These life problems can be stumbling blocks or stepping-stones. Healing is available through applying the principles of a Bible based recovery process to your life.
How can Celebrate Recovery help me?
By linking fellowship, bible study and support you will discover a defense against sin and experience a fresh start from any difficulty which may be preventing you from experiencing the life God intended for you. It is only through the saving grace of God that healing will begin and a new direction for your life will emerge. Ultimately becoming free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors, bringing peace, serenity, joy and most importantly a stronger personal relationship with God and others.
Doesn’t “Recovery” mean I need to be recovering from alcohol or drugs?
No. This ministry is for all types of problems and addictions, which are unhealed, unmet or unresolved.
These may include (but are not limited to):
- Codependency
- Overspending
- Overworking
- Sexual addiction
- Depression
- Divorce
- Overeating
- Drug/Alcohol Addiction
- Grief
- Anger
- Perfectionism
- Need to control
- Abuse
- Hurtful relationships
- (others too numerous to mention; some more controlling than others)
The Eight Principles of Recovery
1. Realize I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.
2. Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover. Happy are those who mourn. God will comfort them.
3. Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control. Happy are the humble.
4. Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God and to someone I trust. Happy are the pure in heart.
5. Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires.
6. Evaluate all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others. Happy are the merciful. Happy are the peacemakers.
7. Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. (Steps 10 and 11)
8. Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words. Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.

O Lord, help me to accept the process
of change You plan for me.
I may not see my ultimate destination,
but let me trust in Your wisdom as I walk the road to recovery.
The image of Your goodness, Your magnanimity,
Your love shines before me. Let me reshape myself in accordance with this image.
Amen.
